Pizza Sauce

Anything homemade automatically tastes better than something out of a jar or can.  And then there is the option of tweeking it to get the best flavor for your taste palet.  Make a big batch of this pizza sauce and then freeze portions so they're available whenever you need one.  They defrost easily in hot water.

  • 24 ounces tomato paste (3 cups)
  • 6 garlic cloves, minced
  • 4 cups water
  • 3 tablespoons dried parsley
  • 2 teaspoons dried onion
  • 1 teaspoon oregano
  • 1 teaspoon basil
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon honey

Directions for Pizza Sauce:

Mix all ingredients together in the slow cooker.  Cover and turn on low for 6 - 8 hours.

When the cooking time is over, let the sauce cool completely.  Once cool, ladle portions into Ziplock freezer bags.  Portions of 1-1/2 to 2 cups is appropriate for the average size large pizza.

You can freeze the portions for up to six months.  When you are ready to use a bag for a pizza, place your frozen portion into a bowl of hot water for several minutes.  It will defrost quickly.
